Adult Education Center in Hartford (AECH)


General Education Development (GED) – This program’s focus is on the development of skills and concepts in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies in preparation for the online 2018 GED Test.

National External Diploma Program (NEDP) – This online program is designed for adults with work and life experience who are seeking a high school diploma. Students demonstrate skills through real-life activities such as reading a map; demonstrating knowledge of basic first aid; writing a resume; and measuring for a new carpet.

English as a Second Language (ESL) – This program will focus on English language literacy.  We have classes for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels to develop skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

American Citizenship – This class will prepare students for their citizenship interview of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).  Instruction includes vocabulary development and civics to prepare students to answer ten out of a possible one hundred questions selected by the INS interviewer.

Morning – 9:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.      Monday - Friday

Afternoon – 12:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.    Monday - Friday          

Evening – 6:00 p.m. – 8:45 p.m.         Monday - Thursday

To register for classes:

1) Current Photo ID      2) Proof of Address (a piece of mail with your address)    3) Proof of Withdrawal from High School

Please come in the morning before 10:00 a.m. or in the evening at 5 p.m.  The process will take up to 2 hours because you will take placement tests to determine the correct class placement for you

To register to take the Official GED Test:

1) Current Photo ID        2) Proof of Address (something that was mailed to you at your home)      3) $13
